Spring in the Jay Peak Area of Vermont

A short season that is often over-looked as it is considered “Mud- Season”

Although there is some truth to this, Vermonter’s know that spring also means the melting snow provides wonderful white water and high water levels for kayaking and canoe enthusiasts. Being close to the tradition native American waterways now known as the Northern Forest Canoe Trail definitely has its advantages. This trail which runs 740 miles from Maine through New Hampshire, Quebec, Vermont and New York, is only found in northern Vermont and the Jay Peak area is a focal point. Paddlers can stay at a Jay Peak Vacation Rental property in the eastern foothills of Jay Peak and paddle the Missisquoi River, Clyde Rivers, Lake Memphremagog which is actually international water as Canada is on the other side, or you could stay in the western foothills and again paddle the Missisquoi down to Lake Champlain.

We specialize in providing kayak and canoe vacation packages in conjunction with Montgomery Adventure Tours so there is no need to bring your equipment unless you want to.

Antiquing in Vermont – Trash and Treasure abound
For someone seeking less adventure and sports, spring is the best time to snap up treasures as locals do major spring cleaning after five months of winter. The Auction houses in the area are very busy during spring and early summer and visitors are encouraged to go antiquing on an antique trail visiting auction houses and stopping at the never-ending parade of garage sales that are a springtime staple in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom.

Artists and Crafts people welcome visitors to Vermont in the spring
With so many small villages and craftspeople in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, the state recognizes the enormous cultural and artistic abilities of its citizens and sponsors an “Open Studio Weekend”, the last weekend in May. Drive through the winding mountain roads as you follow the Artists trail whilst on a getaway weekend in northern Vermont and be amazed at the variety and quality of crafts that you will find in our hidden hamlets.

Guests staying at the Coach House or the Brookside Farmhouse enjoy meeting the Mountain Fiber Folk on Main Street. This cooperative of mainly women not only sell one of a kind handmade Vermont items but often have workshops providing a hands on learning experience for people seeking to expand their artistic abilities.

In the eastern foothills you have the Wooden Horse Arts Guild which offer an incredible variety of goods and again visitors staying at a Jay Peak Vacation Rental property will enjoy seeing what these very talented local artists have produced over winter.

Spring and mud….ideal for a getaway weekend where you can pamper yourself with mud spa treatments, hot stone massages, romantic dinners, gentle walks….come and visit the Jay Peak area to experience Vermont without the heavy visitor traffic of winter and summer.

Summer in the Jay Peak Area of Vermont

People often wonder why after a long winter, Vermonter’s rarely travel out of state in the summer. The answer is simple – our summers are so wonderful and are considered a reward for braving the snow and cold of winter. It is also the reason why despite being known as a winter destination, the state of Vermont receives more visitors during the summer than it does in winter. They too know what Vermonter’s already know, Vermont in the summer is truly glorious.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the Jay Peak area of the Northeast Kingdom. It is the area which hosts the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, an ancient Native American waterway that extends from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Quebec and New York. Montgomery Center is considered a major focal point for this river network that passes through the northern-most regions of the state. Our Northeast Kingdom is also the envy of the rest of Vermont in so far as we have the most lakes and rivers in the state. If you want to see and hear the call of loons, kayak and canoe on flat, crystal clear waters, fly-fish for rainbow trout for dinner, then vacation in the Jay Peak area of Vermont.

If hiking is your love, then you will enjoy conquering the Long Trail which passes through Jay Peak as part of the Appalachian Trail. Our northern woods are home to moose, deer, incredible forest flowers, trees and more - a photographer’s dream destination.

Golfer’s are amazed at the beauty and challenge of the Jay Peak Resort 18 hole championship course and of course, if staying at any Jay Peak Vacation Rental property, we can provide discounted golf passes inclusive of carts. Just call us for these special Vermont golf packages.

Of course, if you don’t want to be too active and just want to spread a picnic blanket and enjoy the gentle warmth of our northern sun whilst reading a good book, then do so. Jay Peak Vermont is all about doing what makes you feel good.

Fall Foliage in the Jay Peak Area of Vermont

Known as “Leaf-peepers” by locals, visitors from around the world come to Vermont each fall to witness the magnificent change wrought by Mother Nature. Driving the back roads of northern Vermont during fall foliage is a photographer’s dream and guests staying at any of our properties get a local map with suggested routes to view the fall foliage. Here they film the yellow, red, scarlet, deep magenta and the colors in-between of the fall foliage as our northern woods turn to say goodbye to summer against the backdrop of mountains, farms, pastures, rivers and the glacial lakes of Vermont.

Fall foliage comes early in the Jay Peak Area and has usually peaked by Columbus Day. Jay Peak Vacation Rentals offers special vacation packages for visitors to the area. Check the vacation package section for details and visit Vermont to celebrate our autumn fall harvests and fairs.
